The Reason for Nazi’s
Over the course of our time on the subject of NAZI Germany and how they came to power we have discussed many possibilities of how it happened. Whether it was the constant instability of the German Government, failures of previous German leaders, the result of WWI, or just in lack of unity amongst the German political parties. However, in my opinion, I feel that the most significant reason of why Germany ended up allowing a person like Adolf Hitler gain supreme power in the country was based mostly based on the results of the reparations placed upon the German government in result of World War I.
After the First World War the Treaty of Versailles wrongfully place severe reparations on Germany which included a price of over 200 billion dollars a price so steep that it was just recently completely paid for a few years back. Along a law prohibited Germany from having a standing army of over a 100,000 men. They forced Germany to give back the Alsace and Lorraine territory that were two vital geographic positions for military purposes but also in terms of natural resources. Their economy would take a huge hit and inflation skyrocketed throughout all of Germany. It’s inability to provide a stable economic society tore the political parties apart leaving it almost impossible to provide a functioning Government after King Wilhelm II was taken out of power at the conclusion of WWI.
The inter-war years built up the perfect scenario for a political leader like Hitler to gain popularity and respect throughout Germany. Although, at first, people were hesitant due to his radical views and questionable beliefs about anti-semitism over time he and the NAZI party began to earn more and more seats with Reichstag. Eventually, Hindenburg, appointed Hitler to chancellor of Germany in 1933 where he eventually would claim ultimate power of the country. He used the Jews as a scapegoat to answer all the questions of German economic and social problems. After being so wrongly treated after WWI and being forced to take sole responsibility for the war itself Germany was in a vulnerable position throughout all of Germany, resulting in a lack of foreign affairs and inability to have trade relations with neighboring countries. Hitler began to change the demographics of Germany society during this time which in result allowed him to use the reparations as leverage to gain over all power in Germany.
